The fig tree is a tree of small dimensions, which does not usually grow more than 4 or 5 meters in height, but it does grow in width. It is a very grateful tree because it requires little care. It endures extreme temperatures, which makes it grow in many places without difficulty and its fruit -brew and fig, depending on the time of year- is highly appreciated.

How to plant a fig tree

Although the fig tree is a tree that requires little care, ideally it should grow in an area with an average temperature of 18ºC, although it is true that it withstands very extreme temperatures.

You can plant a branch of a fig tree already grown. You can also plant the seeds, but the ideal is to choose a tree in the 2-year-old nursery and plant it. This way it will grow more easily.

Choose a well-moist and drained soil and make a hole in it to plant the fig tree. You will have to cover the bed with a layer of stones or bricks, so that the water does not stagnate.

Once you have planted the tree, you should hold the trunk or the part that is on the surface with a firm stick.

In this way, you will shape the fig tree and its branches. If not, it is possible that the tree grows in width and takes on large dimensions.

The best time of year to plant a fig tree is in winter, between November and March. You must do the pruning in February to shape the tree and, of course, every year you will have to remove the old branches.

In June, you will get figs and figs as fruit during August and September. Both fruits can be enjoyed alone, in compote or as an accompaniment in sauces.
